Any Given Sunday

Tua Tagovailoa steals the win on the best game of Lamar Jackson's career, among other blown leads.

Games of the week

I was going to do "Game of the Week," but then this Sunday happened, so here we are.

1. Dolphins at Ravens

The Dolphins performed the impossible, and Tua Tagovailoa proved that he can be a leader of a winning team in the NFL. Tua recovered from his two interceptions in the first half and threw for five second-half touchdowns, recovering from, four of them coming in the fourth quarter, as he led a comeback in which the Dolphins were down 21 heading into the fourth. He turned a 14-35 game into a 42-38 game.

2. Jets at Browns

The Browns collapsed in the most Browns way possible. Blown coverage, a missed extra point, a muffed onside kick, and a game-ending interception. It had it all! No one has blown a 13+ point lead in the last two minutes since 2001. Take a guess at who did it last time - your Cleveland Browns! Jets won 31-30 led by 307 passing yards from Joe Flacco, and 102 receiving yards from rookie Garrett Wilson.

3. Cardinals at Raiders

This was a disaster, a fun disaster. Both teams should have won this game at certain points, and both teams certainly should have lost. This game was capped off fittingly with a wild 59-yard fumble-return touchdown. The Raiders were up 20-0 at halftime, and were outscored 29-3 in the second half + overtime, including a game-tying touchdown + 2-point conversion on the last play of regulation. Cardinals took this one 29-23.

Week 2 takeaways

  • Patrick Mahomes is REALLY GOOD (what a surprise).

  • The Chargers have a really good team. It wasn't enough to beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead, but I'm expecting to see them in the playoffs down the line.

  • Garrett Wilson can become a very good receiver, and I'm ready to see how he plays with this young Jets core.

  • The Browns are a disaster.

  • Washington needs their defense to step up better. Carson Wentz recovered from a very poor first half, but it wasn't enough to erase a 22-point deficit.

  • I believe Tom Brady will finish out the season much stronger than he has started, but this defense is going to need to support him like they did in this game.

  • I have no clue why the Saints let Jameis Winston play with MULTIPLE FRACTURES IN HIS SPINE. They should have just taken the loss on this one, and Winston had a rough game anyway, throwing three interceptions.

  • The Panthers should probably go into full rebuild mode.

  • I'm a Trubisky fan, but the Steelers should start Kenny Pickett. They don't have much to lose.

  • This might be an ugly year for the Colts.

  • Trevor Lawrence is looking good with a coach that at least doesn't kick their own players.

  • The Dolphins are a contender if Tua Tagovailoa can keep up consistent play, and the defense doesn't fold like they did early on.

  • This Ravens defense gave up in the fourth. There was no reason for them to lose the best game of Lamar Jackson's career.

  • The Rams are very good, but they do not look unstoppable like they did at the end of last season.

  • It's terrible that Trey Lance is out for the season. I was looking forward to watching him play, but the 49ers' playoff chances are probably higher with Garoppolo starting.

  • We are back to the 2020 Bengals. A great young quarterback that can't do anything because his offensive line collapses on him in the first second every snap.

  • Denver looks so painfully mediocre on the field right now.

  • The Cardinals had a better showing compared to their poor loss to the Chiefs. It was way too close to call a recovery, however.

  • Derek Carr played well, but the Raiders, like many other teams this week, collapsed in the fourth (and in overtime).

  • The Packers are fine. Aaron will probably have another MVP-level season, and the Packers will most likely win the NFC North.

  • Tennessee couldn't do anything on offense, and they couldn't stop anything on defense. Like the Steelers, the Titans should probably start Malik Willis to get some reps in.

  • Buffalo is scary. This team is absolutely unstoppable. Josh Allen threw for 319 yards with an outstanding 123.7 passer rating. Stefon Diggs hauled in 3(!) touchdowns as well. Right now, the MVP award is up to Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.

  • Minnesota fell flat on the offensive side, and their defense did not perform well, either. There were a lot of missed opportunities for big gains and interceptions.

  • Jalen Hurts showed up and showed out for the packed Philadelphia crowd. This Eagles team is starting out very strong, and on a push to take the NFC East.

Notable injuries

Trey Lance

San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance suffered a broken right ankle during their win against the Seahawks. He underwent successful surgery on Monday, and is out for the rest of the season.

Justin Herbert

Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert suffered a cartilage fracture in his ribs during their loss to the Chiefs, and is on the day-to-day list. He finished the game following the injury, and head coach Brandon Staley stated that Herbert "is okay."

Denver Broncos

The Broncos suffered injuries to two of their key players: WR Jerry Jeudy, and CB Pat Surtain II. Jeudy suffered a rib injury, and Surtain suffered a shoulder injury. X-rays came back negative for Jeudy, and Surtain's injury is non-serious, and they were both listed as the day-to-day.

Next to clinch

The New York Yankees have a magic number of 1 to clinch a playoff spot over the Baltimore Orioles.

The St. Louis Cardinals are up 7.5 games on the Brewers, and have a magic number of 6 to clinch the NL Central with only 12 games left.

Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge hit his 60th home run in the ninth inning of a 4-run comeback against the Pirates on Tuesday night, tying Babe Ruth for the second-most home runs in a season in the AL. Judge has 2 more to go to take the all-time AL record, and he has no plans of stopping. Judge is also leading the AL in batting average and RBIs, putting him on pace to be only the 11th player to ever win the triple crown since RBIs became an official stat in 1920.

Kansas City Royals fire President of Baseball Operations and GM

The Kansas City Royals fired president of baseball operations and general manager Dayton Moore on Wednesday afternoon. Moore was hired as GM in May of 2006, during which they missed the playoffs for the 21st year in a row. In 2014, many major acquisitions made by Moore, such as Salvador Perez, Kelvin Herrera, and Lorenzo Cain, along with other players drafted by the Royals such as Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, and Alex Gordon led this team to an AL pennant where they lost to the San Francisco Giants. The Royals returned the following season and won the World Series in five games over the New York Mets. Following the 2015 championship season, the Royals have not had a playoff team and have fallen back to the place they were before Dayton Moore arrived. J.J. Picollo has been assigned as general manager and executive vice president for the time being.

Damian Lillard reaffirms the accusations

Damian Lillard once again stated that he plans on being a Blazer "for life." He followed that up by calling himself a "naturally loyal person." I think he's got his point across.

Possible lowered NBA Draft eligibility age

The NBA and NBPA are reportedly in talks about lowering the eligibility age of the NBA Draft from 19 to 18. This is expected to be approved soon as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and it could be in effect as soon as the 2024 NBA Draft. This could take a big hit on college basketball, as many top prospects would leave from high school to go directly to the NBA.

The Closer

I have never felt this much joy in a long time. Tua is the greatest player to ever touch a football. Also, the Cardinals are about to clinch the division, which is fun (Edit: nevermind). You can follow and keep in touch on our Twitter page @Big4_Show.

Dear Jaguars, please do not tweet "NOT SATISFIED WITH 1-1."
